According to scripture, all of life is to be an act of worship to God in which we offer up ourselves as "living sacrifices" (Romans 12:1-2). In addition to this, "worship" has come to refer to the Sunday assembly in which the whole Body comes together to encourage one another (Hebrews 10:25) while offering up honor and praise to Him. We believe both forms of worship are necessary to a healthy spiritual walk. In addition to living a God-honoring life, we encourage all of our members to be regular participants in the Sunday morning assemly. As a part of the fellowship known as "Churches of Christ" we have a rich heritage centering on simple worship emulating ancient forms. Like the ancient, our singing is exclusively a cappella (vocal music unaccompanied by instruments.) We have a similar take on the Lord's Supper. We partake of it every Sunday, just as the ancient church did, as a ceremonial reminder of what was done for us by Jesus at Calvary. We give as the ancients gave - not as people under compulsion, but as people who desire to demonstrate our love and gratitude to God. Laurel is a modern church empowered by a commitment to ancient truths. As an "ancient-future church," we anticipate God's future blessings while remaining connected to the ancient truths that brought us here.
