Mike was born in
southern Mississippi in 1954, and was baptized into Christ through
the campus ministry at Mississippi State University in 1977. He
finished a bachelors degree in Animal Science at Mississippi State
and worked as an Agricultural Extension 4-H Agent in Mississippi for
two years. Mike completed a Masters of Science degree in
Agricultural & Extension Education at MSU in 1980. He spent the
1980-81 academic year as a Ministry Intern with the McKnight Road
Church of Christ in St. Louis, and then was offered a chance to be a
Campus Ministry Intern with the Northwest Church of Christ in
Seattle in 1981. Mike was asked in 1982 by the Northwest elders to
continue working as Campus Minister. While living in Seattle, he
finished a Master of Arts in Religion from Pepperdine University
(1985).
Mike worked as the Campus Minister with the Laurel
Church of Christ at the Christian Student Center in Knoxville from
July 1989 through December 2004. In 1994 Mike finished a Masters in Theological Studies
from California Graduate School of Theology. Mike has taught
academic Bible courses for Cascade College, Lipscomb University, and
Abilene Christian University (graduate class in campus ministry). He
believes that campus ministry is one of the most important (but
often overlooked) ministries in the Churches of Christ.
Mike met
Regina, his wife, at Mississippi State, and have been married since
1981. She teaches full-time in Office Adminstration at Pellissippi
State Technological Community College. They have two wonderful
daughters, Jessica who was born in Seattle in 1986 and Lydia who was
born in Knoxville in 1990. |
