Our Heart 2 Heart small group ministry provides the opportunity for Laurel members to form the kind of deep relationships with each other that come from meeting together, studying the Bible together and getting to know each other. Small group members provide the kind of support and encouragement to each other we all need during weekly times together and beyond them. For more information, click here
Children at Laurel come from all over the greater Knoxville community, so we emphasize relationship-building in our classes and activities. We offer classes for all age groups on Sundays and Wednesdays, as well as Kids Worship Down Under for children ages 3 years-third grade during both Sunday worship services. We organize many fun events throughout the year, such as Vacation Bible School and Fall Festival, for families from Laurel and the surrounding community. We also offer a playground families use during church events, and teachers use during Bible classes. A nursery for infants and toddlers is provided during most services. The Christian Student Center (CSC) has been a vibrant and distinguished ministry of the Laurel Church of Christ since 1956, and is located right on the University of Tennessee at Knoxville (UTK) campus. We are a diverse family of brothers and sisters in Christ who strive to serve the triune God and, in light of Jesus’s example of humility, selflessness, service, and sacrifice and the power of the Holy Spirit, to bring glory to God’s name. Laurel’s class for young single adults in graduate school or working provides more than a place to connect over coffee and doughnuts. It’s a place to study and pray and grow together. The group goes on an annual retreat and gets together for social and service outings.
Laurel women get together for Bible study and support as well as just for fun. Tuesday morning Bible class for women at Laurel meets at the building from September through early May at 10 a.m. The class is open to all ages, and a staffed nursery is provided each week, free to those attending the class. The class is planned, taught and conducted by Laurel women and offers an in-depth study of the Bible while also providing the opportunity to build relationships among women of the congregation. The class has a monthly covered dish luncheon and works on service projects, including sewing stuffed bears to give to children in the Emergency Room at Children’s Hospital, once a month.
Our Wednesday night ladies class, led by Robin Smith, wife of Laurel minister Mark Smith, meets at the building from 6:45 – 7:45 p.m. Topics of study change quarterly and prayer request is an important part of the women’s time together.
Each spring women of all ages are invited to our Ladies Retreat for a weekend to worship and study together, to build friendships, and to be encouraged. The retreat has been held in various interesting locations around beautiful East Tennessee, such as Pigeon Forge, Townsend, and Jonesborough.
REFIT™ is a dance fitness class that is similar to Zumba with less Latin influence. We use a great mix of Christian and secular music and have fun working out together in a safe and unintimidating environment! We welcome experts and embrace beginners. The class meets Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. Cost is whatever you feel you can pay. For more information, contact Jana Thomas.
A Men’s Class meets Sunday mornings at the building at 10:00 a.m. The men in the class take turns teaching it and decide various topics of studies. The men gather each year at Carson Springs Conference Center in Newport for a time of study and fellowship.
