Weekly Gatherings
Wednesday Nights: Hearts. Bring your own dinner at 6. Youth group from 6:45-8:00. We introduce the passage/theme for the week in a way that we hope resonates with students’ hearts. These times are for “normal” Wednesdays that are not 4 for 30’s or Roots. Dinner will be provided on 4 for 30 Wednesdays. Dinner is also served at Roots, but requires registering and paying.
Sunday Mornings: Minds. Bible class from 9:30-10:15. We dive deeper into the week’s passage/theme by asking questions of the text.
Sunday Afternoons/Evenings:Hands. Sunday afternoons/evenings are for Jesus Practice. Jesus Practice is a time for us to practice serving like Jesus so that we would become like him. In the same way one might practice to piano to become a better pianist, we practice the ways of Jesus in order to become more Christlike. Times/plans vary.
Revised Common Lectionary
Beginning in February LYF will be selected our scriptures for weekly teachings as well as the scriptures for our bible reading plan from The Revised Common Lectionary. This is a tool used by thousands of churches all over the world to direct their worship, preaching, teaching, and devotional practices. 6/5-13: Camp Barnabas Mission Trip
6/22-27: Impact at Lipscomb University
April Dates
4/10-Human Scavenger Hunt: 6:00-8:00 at the West Town Mall. Students will be split up into groups and will go on a “scavenger hunt” looking for adult’s from Laurel dressed in disguises hiding throughout the mall. Afterwards we’ll all have dinner together in the mall food court. Students should bring $ for their dinner.
4/12-Leader Night: 4:30-7:30 for adult and student leaders.
4/15-Roots: A monthly Wednesday night gathering for the whole church to share a meal, worship, and conversation together. LYF won’t meet separately on Roots Wednesdays as LYF students and families are encouraged to fully engage with Roots.
4/19-Jesus Practice: For Jesus Practice on 4/19 we’ll be putting on a cookout at the Sutherland Flatts apartment complex on Sutherland Avenue. The cookout will be from 5-7, but students can arrive to the apartment complex as early as 4:00pm to help with set up. We’ll be grilling burgers and hot dogs as well as setting up some games, such as 9 square, corn hole, and more.
4/22-4 for 30: A monthly Wednesday LYF event where we meet from 6-8. Dinner is provided and it is free! We have 30 minutes to eat, 30 minutes to serve, 30 minutes to connect with each other, and 30 minutes to connect with God. For this service project we’ll be assembling our summer care packages for the homeless. I’ll send out a link on remind once we have an amazon list ready for people to begin making orders for the supplies we need.
4/26-Solid Rock: Solid Rock is LYF’s annual talent show fundraiser. Solid rock will start at 5:00pm on 4/26. There will be a free chilli dinner, followed by a talent show featuring a wide variety of performances by Laurel members of all ages. There will also be a presentation about the youth group's upcoming summer mission trip to Camp Barnabas, for which LYF will be raising money. If anyone is interested in performing in the talent show they should fill out this form linked here. If anyone is interested in being a part of the Laurel house band they should contact Jason Payon.
As a part of the fundraiser there will also be a silent auction that begins Sunday 4/19 and will end Sunday 4/26 towards the end of Solid Rock. If anyone is interested in donating to the silent auction they can fill out this form here.
5/3-Graduation Sunday: Dinner to honor, bless, and encourage our graduating seniors. More details will follow, but save the date now!
